Sclerotherapy is used to treat spider & varicose veins. Spider veins are formed by the dilation of a small group of blood vessels located close to the surface of the skin. Although they can appear anywhere on the body, spider veins are most commonly found on the face and legs. They usually pose no health hazard but may produce a dull aching in the legs after prolonged standing. Varicose veins are abnormally or enlarged blood vessels caused by a dilation of the vein’s walls, secondary to valvular malfunction. They can be harmful to a patient’s health because they may be associated with the development of deep venous thrombosis.

A sclerosing solution is injected into the veins with a micro-needle. A test is required for those receiving treatment for the 1st time to make sure that there is no adverse reaction to the medication. One to six injections are usually required to effectively treat many veins. The treatment intervals are 4-6 weeks. Minimal discomfort can be expected. Topical anesthetic is not required, but is available.

Pre-treatment: Do not take any aspirin or ibuprofen containing products 2 weeks prior to treatment because it prolongs bleeding.  Do not shave legs or apply lotion on the day of test or treatment.  Please avoid tanning or tanning creams prior to treatment as this will make the vessels harder to see. Bring shorts with you and also wear loose fitting clothes the day of treatment.

Post-treatment: For best results wear prescription grade support hose for 3 weeks. This is not required but recommended. Do not excercise for 3 days for small vessels, 1 week for larger vessels. You may walk for excercise but please no jogging.

Chemical peels are essentially controlled injury to the skin that allows for tightening and smoothing of the skin. Chemical peels may also help to clear acne more quickly and help prevent recurrence. Different depths of peels are performed depending on the desired result. Acne, irregular skin color, wrinkles and scarring may benefit from chemical peels. All chemical peels help to unclog pores and minimize pore size. They are also very effective in stimulating collagen and elastin production. Sun exposure should always be limited when you are undergoing chemical peels because when the top layer of skin is renewed the skin becomes more sensitive to the sun’s rays. Sunscreen is essential for everyday use during this process.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is the reshaping of the nose. It can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. The procedure usually takes an hour or two, although complicated procedures may take longer. Most incisions are made inside the nose, where invisible. During your initial consultation, Dr. Bopp will discuss your concerns about your nose, your expectations, and explain the probable outcome of your procedure.

Most Rhinoplasty patients are up and active within two to three days. After about three days, the swelling and bruising around your eyes will begin to subside. It should be almost completely gone in about two weeks. After ten to twelve days, all dressings, splints, and sutures should be removed and you can return to your normal activities. Correcting problems that resulted from nasal trauma or interfere with breathing may be covered by your health insurance.

Your eyes are the “Windows to your Soul,” as they say, because they reveal so much about you. Unfortunately, your eyes can also be deceiving if signs of aging have altered them. Instead of looking rested, alert and in-charge, you may appear to be tired, run-down, angry, or unhappy due to drooping eyelids or puffy bags under the eyes. If you feel that your eyes make you look older, sad or fatigued, you may want to consider cosmetic eyelid surgery, also called Blepharoplasty. Current statistics show that 50% of all males and 20% of women will be affected by some degree of hair loss. At Bopp Dermatology & Facial Plastic Surgery we utilize state of the art procedures and can obtain permanent results with minimum recovery time. Hair transplantation is surgical procedure using mini and micro-grafts (not plugs). These graphs contain hair follicles taken from an area that is not thinning and transplanted into the desired area.

Over time, the hair will continue to grow. The procedure generally takes eight hours. Local anesthesia is used, similar to going to the dentist. There may be moderate discomfort in the scalp for the first few days. Recovery from surgery is usually rapid. Within two weeks sutures are removed and graphs healed. FAQ’s

Is there any pain involved in laser treatment with Smoothbeam?

How long before I see results?

Several treatments may be required, depending on anatomical location and the extent of the desired results.

VBeam Laser Treatment

Dr. Barbara Bopp uses the VBeam laser for vascular lesions including facial veins, scars (red raised scars that are often caused by surgery, trauma, or burns), red birthmarks, port wine stains (vascular lesions that grow rapidly after birth and may impair the function of another organ), angiomas (small red spots which may be slightly raised or just beneath the surface of the skin), as well as roseacea (affecting the skin of the face around the nose, chin, and cheeks causing a blush or sunburned look).

VBeam is a pulsed dye laser which was designed to rid patients of benign vascular lesions. The laser delivers an intense but gentle burst of yellow light to the skin. The light is specifically absorbed by the blood vessels in the dermis. These blood vessels are coagulated and then reabsorbed by the body during the natural healing process. Side effects include purpura (a laser bruise), redness, & swelling in the treated area. These are transient & usually do not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects such as scarring are rare. Dr. Bopp recommends avoiding sun exposure before and throughout the course of treatment. A sunblock (SPF 30 or above) should be used. The post-treatment care needed depends on what lesion was treated. Be sure to discuss this with Dr. Bopp before treatment.

PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) is a medical treatment that uses a photo-sensitizing drug followed by exposure to a light source. The procedure is easily performed in the office. First a photo-sensitizing cream is applied to the affected area. Second, there is an incubation period of three hours that must be spent in the office.  Finally, the affected area is then exposed to the light source with the IPL laser.  This treatment improves skin texture, blotchy pigmentation, fine lines, and pre-cancers. PDT can be used for moderate to severe cystic acne because of its ability to suppress the sebaceous glands. This treatment can also be used to prevent pre-cancers. The overall goal is younger and healthier skin.

Pre-Treatment: Come to treatment with a clean face ( no make-up, moisturizers, or sunscreen). Please bring a wide-brimmed hat or baseball hat with you. Anti-viral medicines should be utilized for a patient who has a history of cold sores. The following should be stopped at least one week prior to your PDT treatment: Retin-A, electrolysis, waxing, depilatories, mask/facials, and hair dying treatments.

Post-Treatment: Stay out of the sun and bright light for the next 48 hours. Your skin will be sensitive to the sun and you could get severely sunburned. Please apply sunblock. You will want to avoid extreme temperatures such as hot water and wind. Your skin will be red for 1-7 days. Swelling may occur but is not common and is only temporary. Some crusting or light peeling may be noted. If peeling occurs, DO NOT pick, scratch, or rub the skin off. You will need to wear an SPF of at least 30 for two weeks after each treatment.
