Laser Hair Reduction

How would you like to add more time to your day? While you can't change the clock, you can minimize the time you spend removing unwanted hair. Two of Metairie, Louisiana’s leading physicians, Felix Bopp, MD and Barbara Bopp, MD, specialize in laser hair reduction. Shortly after your first treatment at Bopp Dermatology & Facial Plastic Surgery, you notice significantly less hair growth. With each continuing treatment, you're left with smoother and smoother skin.

How does laser hair reduction work?

Advanced cosmetic lasers precisely target hair follicles, without damaging the surrounding skin. As those follicles absorb laser light, your hair is destroyed. Some hair falls out instantly during your treatment. But most treated hair gradually loosens and falls out over the following two to three weeks.

Laser hair reduction dramatically reduces the growth of hair on your:

  • Legs, feet, and toes
  • Bikini zone
  • Arms and underarms
  • Face, neck, and chin

Laser hair reduction works in other areas, too. Talk with your dedicated practitioner at Bopp Dermatology & Facial Plastic Surgery to design a hair removal package to fit your needs.

Is laser hair reduction permanent?

Some of your hair will grow back after a laser hair reduction treatment. But each time it grows, it comes back lighter and finer. With each treatment, fewer and fewer hairs return. The amount of treatments you need to have the best results depends on how your hair responds to the laser, as well as how dark and coarse your body hair grows.

Most clients have optimal results and smooth skin with five to seven treatments. It’s possible to have some unwanted hair regrowth over time. This is often due to hormonal fluctuations. If new hair grows in long after your treatments are over, you can schedule touch-up appointments to have that new hair lasered away.

Do laser hair reduction treatments hurt?

Any discomfort you feel during laser hair reduction treatments is minimal, especially compared to the unbearable pain of plucking and waxing. Most men and women describe sensations as short bursts of tiny rubber bands hitting their skin. In the beginning, when your hair is most dark and coarse, you’re more likely to feel the laser.

As you continue with your treatments, you experience less and less discomfort with each session. If you’re sensitive to pain or have a sensitive area treated — like the bikini area — you can minimize discomfort by icing the area beforehand, or applying a topical numbing cream. Talk with your practitioner if you’re concerned about pain during laser hair reduction.
